CNPC Wins Shanxi's First Geothermal Mining Rights! Another Underground Clean Energy Source, Beyond Coalbed Methane, Enters Scale Development

Recently, Shanxi Province's first geothermal mining right was successfully auctioned via the Provincial Natural Resources Online Trading Platform. PetroChina Jiyu (Yuncheng) New Energy Development Co., Ltd. secured the geothermal mining rights for the Yuncheng Economic and Technological Development Zone block.

The block area to be transferred is 7.231 square kilometers, with an extractable geothermal fluid resource volume of 413.13 million cubic meters per year. The transfer period is 30 years. A geothermal heating replacement project will be implemented, including the installation of 17 wells to achieve 100% same-layer reinjection of geothermal tailwater. Upon operation, the project is expected to save 2.4 ten thousand tons of standard coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 6.24 ten thousand tons, demonstrating significant ecological carbon reduction benefits.
